I had my monthly oncology appointment this week. My phosphate levels continue to fall and are approaching normal levels thanks to my monthly Zolendronic acid infusions. Cancer in the bones causes calcium to leak into the blood stream. The acid infusions are strengthening and repairing my bones and coating them so the leakage has been getting less. My biggest bug bear right now is Gabapentin pain medication. I did try to come off of that a couple of months ago. I managed to get down to 600mg per day from 900mg and my intention was to come right off of it. Unfortunately when I tried to get down to just 300mg per day I started getting pain again. What I didnt know and wasnt told – after thoroughly researching it – is that it wasnt real pain, but my body going into panic at not getting as much of the drug as it was used to and sending signals to my brain that it needed more and was actually experiencing phantom pains. These will only last a couple of weeks and then will wear off as I shouldnt actually be experiencing pain any longer because of the treatments I have been having, but of course after 8 months am addicted to the bloody stuff. With that in mind I decided yesterday to try again and have dropped from 600mg down to the 300mg per day. I am already experiencing twinges of pain – but now I know it isnt real and will fade in a few weeks I am more than ready to nail this. Once I get down to the 300mg I will taper off by dropping 100mg per week until I am pain med free. I dont like taking shit when it isnt neccessary so am prepared to put up with some discomfort whilst I ditch the bitch lol
