Treatment Update.
So after spending ages last night writing out an in depth email about the pain I’ve been in the past months and the way I was treated by the oncologist in Southampton – who told me I had very little options going forward now that the radium was no longer working – although he did have a treatment that could be carried out in Southampton that would address both the lymph nodes and the bone disease growth. He went on to tell me that treatment as not offered by the NHS but was available privately. The cost? a little over £100k – I obviously declined that and he completely lost interest in speaking further. I dont have medical insurance and having been a spendthrift all my life certainly dont have that amount of money at my disposal. I was left feeling a bit lost and in limbo until my appointment on 29th May. So now to the plus sides – maybe not pluses to anyone else but to me and my ways of thinking they are pluses. So my pain is under control which is a great thing and all thanks to Nurse Becky at MacMillan. Jo the specialist cancer nurse on the Isle of Wight immediately phoned me back today after getting my email to reassure me that there are still lots of options. I am having yet another mri scan on Friday for my spine just to give them more in depth. She said they are likely to offer me 2 different treatments now. One is a much softer and gentler approach in the form of chemo tablets I take at home – or they have a much more aggressive form of chemotherapy that I woudl have at the hospital. It would be every 3 weeks and I would have 10 sessions of that for the next 30 weeks. It is much stronger but comes with heavier side effects than I had last time I had chemo 2 years ago now. I opted for that one as the same as I discussed with her – I am in perfect health apart from cancer (which I would know nothing about if it hadnt been for the recent pain0. So I am as strong as an ox and perfectly able to cope with it. It does mean oh joy of joys back on steroids and the other drugs that negate a lot of the side effects from the chemo. So I will be back to having a fat face before I know it. To be perfectly honest – I simply dont care. I know what I am capable of and what Im not – and I know I can physically stand this new treatment. If my hair falls out – there are bandanas. There is something to deal with whatever the outcomes of this treatment will be. Yes I am vain so yes I will take them all. After 3 years since my diagnosis and the different treatments I have had – I know better than anyone just what I am made of in terms of dealing with it all over again. So weirdly I am quite happy knowing that there are more options than that stupid cunt of a doctor told me last week in Southampton – I didnt say too much about it last week as I was still quite shell shocked. As it turns out now – fpr no bloody good reason! So bring on the new tortures lol I am still going to have an amazing summer and Fuertevantura in July with the man I love more than anyone or anything in this world. My garden is going to look fuck off amazing. And my work which I also love – still continues to grow with new customers every year. Despite any annoyances from cancer – I still think I am the luckiest man aliive 🙂
